We offer a variety of programs and internships to help you explore a career as a member of the Santee Cooper team.
Summer Positions
Santee Cooper offers an opportunity for students to gain practical experience in an electric utility environment during the summer months.
We hire current college and high school students for a variety of positions in the Charleston/Moncks Corner and Myrtle Beach areas. Most of our summer positions are for college students who have completed at least one year of college. However, there are some positions for which high school students (at least 16 years of age) are eligible. These positions include lifeguard, grounds and facilities maintenance, and some clerical positions. All candidates for summer employment must pass a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen and background check.

Cooperative Education
Santee Cooper works with participating universities to hire co-op students in a variety of disciplines. Targeted majors include Engineering and Computer Science.
Current universities at which Santee Cooper recruits co-op students include but are not limited to: Clemson University, University of South Carolina, North Carolina A&T, South Carolina State University and Georgia Tech.

Power Associates Program
Electrical Line Workers
Santee Cooper's Power Associates Program for Electrical Line Workers is a competitive scholarship program that prepares high school graduates to become Electrical Line Workers.
Electrical Line Workers install, maintain and repair power lines and equipment in difficult weather conditions and all hours of the day or night. However, areas of employment for graduates of the Electrical Line Worker program include electric utilities, telephone companies, cable television companies and line construction contractors.
Students will attend courses at Trident Technical College North Charleston campus, Horry Georgetown Technical College or York Technical College. While in the program, they are exposed to the technical curriculum and manual training necessary for success as Electrical Line Workers. They also gain paid experience by working with a Santee Cooper line crew.
Santee Cooper pays for tuition, fees, books and tool requirements. Graduates receive consideration for full-time employment at Santee Cooper.

Generation – Distribution
Santee Cooper's Power Associates Program is a competitive scholarship program that prepares high school graduates for rewarding technical careers in the electric utility industry.
During this two-year program, students earn a technical associate degree and gain hands-on experience by working in a generating station and/or electrical-distribution area. Santee Cooper pays for tuition, fees, books and supplies. Students earn a competitive wage, receive a weekly stipend, and qualify for substantial incentive bonuses each semester based on academic performance. Graduates receive preferential consideration for full-time employment at Santee Cooper.

Types of Jobs
Auxiliary Operator - Auxiliary Operators perform the critical tasks of operating, inspecting and monitoring equipment that produces electricity such as turbines, generators and boilers. Auxiliary Operators work rotating shifts in generating stations that operate 24/7.
E&I Technician - Electrical and Instrumentation Technicians maintain all electrical, electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment in a generating station environment.
Power Plant Mechanic - Power Plant Mechanics maintain mechanical equipment in a generating station, such as piping systems and hydraulic and pneumatic power-transmission systems.
Substation Maintenance Technician - Working both indoors and outdoors, a Substation Maintenance Technician performs critical installation and maintenance work on Santee Cooper’s substations. After leaving a generating station, electricity flows through substations statewide on its way to homes and businesses.
